Spot Croaker or spot which many anglers know this fish species because of the spot
found behind their gill plates. Found throughout the bay system but most abundant during
the warmer months. They are mostly a bottom feeder dining on small shrimp, crustaceans,
worms and baitfish. During the fall they spawn in the surf where you may be able to catch
some larger adult but 12 inches long and weighing about a pound is maxium size. Although
edible they are not sought after for table fare. When cook though it's best to fry fish
whole like the freshwater perch. Best bet is to use the smaller versions of the species
for bait to catch a nice size trout or red.
