In case you haven't notice it's cold out there!!! So my hot spot this month is sitting next to the fireplace enjoying those left over turkey dinners. Doing a little catching up on the N.F.L and N.B.A standings should be on the top of your priority list. Try tuneing in on a Cowboy game or two instead of wading those freezing waters out in West bay. Not sure about you but a cold Shiner Bock and a turkey sandwich watching the Rockets squeak out another win, sure sounds better than hauling butt across some wind blown bay while the spray freezes to your face. The extent of my exerting any energy during these next couple of months, will be forcing myself down to the video store or out to the wood pile. Tis the Holiday season, full of Saint Nick and Eggnog, not in that particular order. So sit back and chill out for awhile and try to enjoy them in between the trips to the mall and short work weeks till the end of the year.
But being the true die hard Texas angler that you are. And watching the fishing shows just won't fill that empty void your feeling in your gut. If old Bill Dance or another episode of the Walker Cay Chronicles won't quite fill the need to throw a couple of lures across the water. Then there is hope for you out there somewhere in one of the many Texas bays. The one thing that is good to remember is saltwater does not freeze, but fishermen do!!! So be sure to dress warm and bring along a couple of thermos of hot coffee, you can thank me later!!!
West Bay, Matagorda, Trinity, Baffin and Lagunas are still holding fish. And if you must fish, these will be some good starting off points for wadefishing or drifting. On warming days when the sun really comes out, and raises the temperature in the shallows. Trout and reds will go up into these protected shallows to feed, and if you happen to go on the right days, you may come home with enough fish to fend off these overwhelming urges till the end of February. Or if this wacky Texas weather holds true there should be a few days around Christmas time when the thermometer reaches the upper 70's. But you will have to be ready to pounce on these few days when they occur. So have your work excuse book handy, and use some of the real reliable ones near the top, it won't take a rocket scientist to figure out where you will be heading!!!!
As for me I'll be snuggled up on the couch with my trusty remote. Drop me a line and I can fill you in on the box scores, and you can fill me in on the fishing conditions.Heck, you never know if the old thermos hits the 80's you may even seen my ugly face out there with you, "stranger things have happened!!!!"
